Surf Life Athletes

Surf Life Physio is heavily involved in our local communitiy including strong relationships with local sporting clubs that we provide physiotherapy and related services to members, friends, and families. At Surf Life Physio, we place high value in supporting our athletes from a variety of sporting fields and background in their pursuit for success. 

 Courtney "Golden Girl" Hancock 

At just 24 years of age Courtney has what it takes – dedication, enthusiasm and a contagious smile that belies a strength of character and fierce will to win. Already regarded as one of the top Ironwoman in the Country, Courtney is driven by a desire to be the very best athlete she can be. She is naturally gifted physically and has the mental strength to make the necessary sacrifices in her personal life that will allow her to realise her full potential.

Kristyl "The One and Only" Smith 

Part owner of Dolphin Surf Craft, Kristyl has four world championship gold medals and is a two-time national Ironwoman winner. She is a 6 x Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironwoman Series Runner Up and often referred to as the Mother Teresa of the surf. Often spotted drinking coffee with her beloved dog Brylee, Kristyl has represented Australia too many times to count and continutes to go around in hope of taking out a Kellogg's Nurti-Grain Ironwoman Series. 

 Maddy "Consider it" Dunn

At only 19 years old, Maddy is proving a threat to the Nutrigrain Ironwoman Series. With her second ever race win in Rd 6 of the 2013/14 Series, Maddy has finished up 4th, requalifying herself for next years series. With a resent move to the Gold Coast and training along side idols Courtney Hancock and Kristyl Smith, Maddy is only going to get fitter, faster and stronger so is definietly one to watch over the next few years!

Christina "Tiny"  Ruiz 

Raised in Victoria, Christina moved to the Gold Coast in 2011 to pursue her sporting career and study a Bachelor of Commerce. Her chosen discipline is Pool Lifesaving and throughout her 5 short years in the sport she has represented Australian 8 times, holds 5 Australian Records and numerous Australian Titles. Currently training with the National Squad at TSS, she hopes to gain seleciton for the 2014 World Championships and be apart of the team that regains Australia's title as Word Champions. 

Rebecca Creedy

In her hometown of Redcliffe, Bec was not involved in Surf Sports until she was 24. After a successful career in swimming including a gold medal in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay at the Kuala Lumpar Commonwealth Games, Bec started paddling boards and skis to keep up her fitness. Since then she has won an Australian and World Ironwoman Title. Bec has recently joined the BMD Northcliffe Surf Club and looks to defend her ironwoman title in Perth next month.

Ky "Surf God"
Hurst

Ky is a veteran of the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series, having competed for more than 15 years. He is also a great of Australian open water and long distance swimming, competing at multiple World Championships and Olympic Games. Ky has won four Australian Ironman titles, and is a member of the Surf Life Saving Australia Hall of Fame.

Tanyn "Young Gun" Lyndon 

Tanyn is adventurous and extremely enthusiastic. At only 21 years of age, he is the baby of the group, but given his very impressive career results, he looks sure to be a strong competitor well into the future. The ironman born and bred in Lennox Heads, NSW is a Four-time Australian Junior Ironman champion who trains hard to mix it with the big boys. Tanyn recently finished up 6th in the Nutrigrain Ironman Series which has requalified him for 2014/15!

Cory "Chill" Hill

Originally hailing from West Beach Adelaide, Cory grew up aspiring to be an ironman. Making his debute to the Kellogs NutriGrain Series in 2009/10 Cory spent three seasons in the series. Over the past two years Cory has travelled the world with Ocean Ski Paddling including a 3rd place at the ICF World Championships and a 3rd at Molokai. He placed 2nd in the Ski Race at Rescue 2012 and was part of the Gold Medal Taplin team at Aussies last year. 

Michael "Not So Little" Booth

Growing up in costal town, Caves Beach, Michael was bred to succeed in the surf. After numerous Aussie medals Michael moved to Northcliffe in 2009 for a change of scenery where he disovered his niche in Ocean Ski Paddling a few years later. Placing 6th overall in the 2012 Ocean Paddler World Series, Michael is keen to chase some international podium finishes in the coming years. Michael has also just made his first Australian sprint kayak team, headed for Szeged, Hungary, in July, for the U23 World Champs.

Stefaan "Farny" Demopoulos

Born and bred in Townsville, Stefaan moved to the Gold Coast to pursue his sporting career. Stefaan has been on QLD representative teams since 2010. He has also represented Australia on numerous development teams and is working towards open selection in the near future. He is the current Queensland U19 Ironman Champion and will head to Perth next month to test his chances as the U19 Aussie Champ in the footsteps of idol Shannon Eckstein.
