Assistant Professor. Nick Marshall APAM

Previous to founding Surflife Physio Nick has been the senior outpatient Physio at Tweed Hospital for 10 years. He continues to be an educator and mentor for undergraduate Physio students, ensuring up-to-date Physio knowledge. Nick continues to compete and is now the only competitor to have done every race of the modern Coolangatta Gold Ironman, a gruelling paddle, swim and run which starts at one end of the Gold Coast, goes to the other, and returns. His Physiotherapy focus is youth and sport and he continues to travel with the Queensland State Surf Team, Australian Surf Team and the National Surf Life Saving High Performance Squad.

Troy Eady APAM

For 15 years Troy has travelled the world as the Australian Surf Life Saving Team Physio and has been to some of the worlds best beaches in this role. He has also been the team Physio for the Kelloggs Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman Series for the past 15 years. When back in the practice, he has looked after National Rugby League Clubs being the first team Physio for the Central Coast Mariners A League team and helped out on the WCT, back when he had hair. He has consulted to Qantas, Sanitarium Health Foods and the National Aboriginal and Islander Dance Academy (NAISDA). As an athlete, Troy played Rugby, surfs too much and continues to compete in Surf Life Saving. His Physiotherapy focus is sport and occupational health. As a long time private practitioner Troy has a wealth of experience with general musculoskeletal injuries, aches and pains.

Liz Urquhart APAM, ESSAM, SMAM

  

Liz brings a valuable set of skills and experience to offer our patients and community. She has a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Applied Science in Clinical Exercise Science specialising in Neurological Rehabilitation at the University of Queensland, and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Griffith University.

 

Liz has completed further study in the application of exercise for weight management and rehabilitation for patients with cardiopulmonary conditions in the United Kingdom. Through her work in hospitals, community centres and in private practice she has over nine years experience in working with patients managing long term illnesses and disabilities to improve their health and wellbeing through education and the strategical implementation of exercise programs.

 

Liz brings her passion for helping people achieve their optimal vision of health through better quality and increased quantity of movement regardless of age and medical status.

Elise Bateman Sports Psychologist

Elise is a registered Sport Psychologist with over 6 years experience in the world of elite sport
supporting athletes and coaches to realise their sporting potential and perform at their best. She is
currently the Team Psychologist for the Australian Swimming Junior Worlds Program and was
appointed as the National Team Psychologist for the 2012 Olympic Synchronised Swimming Team.

 

She has worked with a number of State and National teams and International athletes including Surf
Life Saving Australia, National Junior Athletics Team, QAS Rugby League, Gymnastics Qld, Diving Qld
Talent Squad and QAS Volleyball Squad. Elise has also delivered parenting and coaching workshops to
a number of different coach accreditation courses, information seminars and educational workshops.

 

Elise’s energetic style incorporates sport psychology and personal development, and she also
specialises in bio-feedback where athletes learn how to manage their nervous energy in the lead-up
to competition. Her facilitation style is interactive and encourages people to take!responsibility for
their performance.

 

Josh Carter APAM, ESSAM

BExSSc (Clinical Exercise Physiology), DPhty  

  

Josh has worked clinically as an accredited exercise physiologist in a private practice in Brisbane where he was responsible for musculoskeletal rehabilitation, Pilate’s programs and strength and conditioning for both the general population and athletes. He has spent a number of years as a sports trainer for a range of Brisbane and Gold Coast sporting codes such as both rugby codes, AFL, soccer, cricket and consequently has a thorough understanding of the injuries that occur and the treatment required in these sports.

 

After undertaking further study, Josh now has a Doctor of Physiotherapy degree from Bond and has completed original research with Nick Marshall investigating shoulder injuries in young surf lifesavers. This paper is in the pre-publication stage and he hopes to be published in the Journal of Physical Therapy in Sport later this year. He will be assisting Bond as a facilitator for their simulation based learning classes that are being introduced into the Physiotherapy degree this year. Josh is also currently working as a Physiotherapist for Labrador AFC and Robina AFC.

 

Clinically, his areas of interest include general musculoskeletal injuries and pain, sporting injuries and neurological / vestibular rehabilitation. Josh has a passion for both manual therapy and exercise based intervention and a keen interest in running analysis and biomechanical analysis of sports such as stand up paddle boarding, to prevent injuries. In his spare time, Josh can be found stand up paddle boarding, playing touch football or surfing when the swell is working.

Bonnie is a friendly and passionate dietitian with a keen interest in sports nutrition.

 

Having competed in the Nutri-Grain Professional Ironwoman series for the past seven years, Bonnie also has many years’ experience coaching junior and senior athletes in both Surf Lifesaving and a wide range of other sporting disciplines.  This rare depth of experience has provided her with a great understanding of what is involved in the training and racing process and where proper nutrition can fit into the big picture to help you achieve your personal goals.

 

Bonnie enjoys helping a wide range of athletes from beginners to the elite, providing accurate advice and support to get the best out of yourself in sport and everyday life. She also enjoys helping people meet their general weight management goals and using nutrition to manage diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, coeliac disease, fatigue, bloating and allergies/intolerances.
